Located at the foot of the highest desert dunes in Morocco named "" Erg Chebbi, "" Auberge Akabar is a pleasant stop to explore the desert of Merzouga, south east Morocco as a small family owned hotel.
Few meters after the centre of the famous Merzouga village, Auberge Akabar is accessible with any type of vehicle which make it an ideal place to spend a night or two exploring the dunes, camel trekking at the sunset, camping or take a 4x4 excursion around the Erg Chebbi Sahara desert to meet the nomads and visit the others villages around.
Managed by Omar Bokbout, a Berber man born in Merzouga, Auberge Akabar is small hotel designed in the tradition of adobe construction. Auberge Akabar is a Merzouga hotel that offers beautiful rooms with private bathrooms and beautiful terrace with a panoramic view over the dunes and oases of Merzouga. The meals in Auberge Akabar are all homemade which let you taste the traditional Berber dishes of the south.
Omar Bokbot, the owner of Auberge Akabar at Merzouga has set up a traditional nomad camp with tents made from camel and goat wool and he suggest for the guests of the hotel and other independent travelers to spend at least one night in Berber tents in the desert. Other programs offered with Camels or 4x4 for extended stays.
